Wrong simulated processing time in case of parallel gateways

Hello,

I have some problems with simulating the total processing time of a process containing a parallel gateway. As it is shown in the attached screenshot, the simulation adds the single times of all activities for calculating the total time of the modeled process. However, regarding the parallel gateway, only the branch or activity beginning with the gateway that takes the longest time is crucial. Are there workarounds to solve this problem and to get the real total time?

Any help will be appreciated.

Kind regards,

Robert

Dear Robert,

In order to best solve your question, please attach again your file including the folder with the same name. It is required to open the .bpnm file because it was created in collaboration mode.

Thank you in advance,

Dear Juan,

Could you already reprocude the problem described above?

Dear Robert,

Thank you very much for your help. We have tried to see the time according what you said. We want to share with you What if analysis article which helps to create scenarios: http://help.bizagi.com/processmodeler/en/index.html?what_if_analysis.htm

In addition, when you change the seed of the properties, you will get different result.

Dear Juan,

Thank you for your response and the reference. Unfortunately, the problem remains the same.

In my example, I have only three tasks (Task 1, Task 2, and Task 3) that are executed in parallel. The tasks have the following durations:

  • Task 1: 5 minutes
  • Task 2: 10 minutes
  • Task 3: 15 minutes.

Now, I want to simulate the total cycle time of this process. For this, only Task 3 which takes the longest time has impact on the total cycle time, right? However, the result screen for one process instance executed shows me a total cycle time of 30 minutes instead of 15 minutes. That means that the simulation disregards the parallel gateway and simply summarizes the durations of all tasks. I hope this will make the problem more tangible.

Since I noticed that I attached the wrong file to a previous post (sorry for that), here comes the right one.

Best regards,

Robert

Dear Robert,

The total process time is calculated as the sum of the total time of all tasks in the process. We currently do not calculate the cumulative total time of the longest execution path for all instances of the process, it only has the maximum execution time of an instance of the process in the "Max column. time ".

Total Processing time report is correct, it does not matter if the tasks are parallel or sequential, total processing time is the total working time.
