Utilization report calculation error?
Hi,
I've been using Bizagi for about a month and I gotta tell you that I am disappointed. The program is good, but there are so many bugs and errors that make me think you don't actually run trials before releasing to the customers.
Here I am opening a new topic and hoping for the best.
I noticed the utilization report does not relate to the calendar settings, so what is the use of that? Maybe I am missing the point, but when I see a utilization report, I want to understand that in relation to my shift length and not to a 24h day.
Please see the images attached where I did some calculation and found out that Bizagi utilization relates to a 24-hour day and not to my 8-hour workday.
I would like to hear from you about that. Please let me know if my understanding is correct.
Thanks
Regards
Hi Lucas,
We are very sorry that you have encountered issues with Bizagi Modeler. We are very interested to hear about any bugs or errors, so we can work to fix them. I assure you, our software updates are tested before release.
In response to your question, the utilization is in relation to the process Max Time.
Please see this example as an illustration of how the percentage is calculated. It is an excert from this help page: https://help.bizagi.com/process-modeler/en/index.html?level_3_example.htm
"The Utilization column indicates the percentage of time the resource Person was busy processing tokens. For each token, the resource Person employs 1 hour to process it. Therefore, the time this resource was busy processing tokens is 1 hour/token x 2 tokens = 2 hours. Now, from the Max. time column in the process results, you know that the maximum amount of time that any of the simulated tokens lasted inside the Process 1 is 4 hours 59 minutes (in this case, the second token: 59 minutes waiting to be processed by Task 1 + 1 hour while Task 1 processes it + 3 hours while Task 3 processes it). If you divide the 2 hours that the resource Person was busy processing tokens at Task 1 by the process Max. time, you will obtain a Utilization of 40% for the resource Person: (2 hours x 60 minutes/hour)/(4 hours x 60 minutes/hour + 59 minutes) = 120 minutes/299 minutes = 40%."
I hope that this helps to answer the question in the context of your example. Please let us know, we look forward to your response.
Kind regards,
David Foster
Hi David,
Thanks for clarifying that.
a) My initial understanding was UTILIZATION = Total Resource processing time / Total Resource time availability
b) Bizagi calculates UTILIZATION = Total Resource processing time / Max Process time length, which doesn't make much sense to me
I believe both can be used, but what really matters from a managerial standpoint is to evaluate how the assets are used in relation to the overall availability.
I wonder if a new column could be added in a future product update so you cover both situations (a) and (b).
Thanks
Hi Lucas,
If you have not already done this, I suggest creating an Idea for the Bizagi community to vote and comment on. The product team will then consider the feature for a future release.
Kind regards,
David Foster
