Simulation calculates wrong times
I built a simple process and set up the simulation with the right times and resources - one whole instance of the process should take about 3 minutes and I have it run for 50 instances. Since the 50 instances are being processed simultaneously (as it flows thru the process), the total time for running these 50 instances should be 30 to 45 minutes (which is the time I defined for it run in the properties setting).
However, when the simulation runs, the results show that the total time was about 20 hours and the waiting times in the process were also very high at 6 hours. It seems the Min time, Max time, and Avg time all seem to be excessive where they represent the entire processing of 50 instances rather than for each instance which should be averaging only about 3 minutes.
Is this an error in the calculation? Or is there a different setting I need to define so that the Min, Max, Avg, and Total times are calculated on each instance rather than across all instances?
Good morning Matthew, thank you for contacting us. Please send us an image of the Simulation configuration that you are using or if possible, send us a copy of your process model to evaluate the situation.
It seem that your procedure is fine, we suggest you to check the waiting time for each task and the variation, represented by the Max and Min time.
Thank you. I don't have any waiting times input for these steps (they're all marked as zero, but I do have process times entered).
This blog won't let me upload my BPM file directly so I attached the BPM file as a jpg file (just remove the ".jpg" extension to view it as the original BPM file). The other image file is a snapshot of the output where I circled the parts of the simulation output that continues to show excessive times (calculated as hours instead of minutes).
If you need anything else on this, then please let me know. Thanks!
Hi Matthew,
We apologise for the slow response. I am not able to download the files from your post, but can you send your .BPM file to modeler@bizagi.com and reference this forum post, please? We can then analyse the file for you.
If you need some more help with how simulation and the resource analysis features work in Modeler, please see this page: https://help.bizagi.com/process-modeler/en/index.html?level_3_example.htm
Kind regards,
David Foster
Thank you, I just emailed the .BPM file as suggested.
Thank you, we will respond as soon as we have completed our analysis.
Kind regards,
David Foster
Hi Matthew,
We've escalated this issue to our Product Team, and they will work on that. So, as soon as they give us an answer, we will let you know.
Kind regards,
