Prevention of multiple cases to update the same entity record

My use case is the maintenance of content on our website related to a product, this is governed by an approval and validation process. How can I prevent multiple cases being raised to maintain the content on the same product? I could use a business key on the process entity that includes the product code; but that would prevent the creation of cases where the update had been completed. I only want to prevent duplicate "in-flight" cases.

Dear Paul,

For this purpose you could use for example an attribute named "taken" (boolean), which is set to true once a case is created for a certain product, and set back to false again once the case is finalized.

Consequently, case creation for a product would only be possible if the attribute "taken" is equal to false.
