Connecting tasks in between different pools

Hi,

I've created 2 pools. I've added one task in each pool. Try to connect tasks-application do not allow me to do it: connector does not clue.

Current workaround: i move all tasks to the same pool, connect them and after that move them to different pools.

Dear Dmitry and Michael,

Thank you for your posted feedback.

According to the BPMN standard, in order to connect tasks which belong to different pools, you would need to use the message flow.

For further information, refer to http://help.bizagi.com/processmodeler/en/index.html?multiple_pools.htm.

You may also use the pie menu for automatic connection, as suggested by Michael as well.

If you do need to use sequence flows, these tasks need to be contained within the same pool (and you may use lanes instead).

For more information on the different BPMN elements in Bizagi, refer to http://help.bizagi.com/processmodeler/en/the_palette.htm.

Best regards,

Hello Dmitry,

did you use sequence flow connector to connect the 2 tasks? if yes, this is not correct as the notation only allows message flows between pools. Use the pie menu (visible when selecting a task in diagram) to drag and drop a task into another pool. The tasks will be automatically connected with a message flow.

If this does not work, please check if you have the latest version of bizagi process modeler.

Dear Daisuke,

I have a similar problem. When I use two or more pools in the same process diagram, the simulation does not work well. In particular, it seems that tokens do not pass through the message flow and so the two pools work separately and not as well as a collaboration diagram.

How can I do to simulate a collaboration diagram?

Because I'm using Bizagi process model for my PhD research and I really appreciate this software.

Thanks

Best regards

Hello,

I have encountered a problem very similar to what Stefania described. I'm quite new to BPMN and self taught so it's quite possible my diagram has an error. Could any one offer some help?

Hi Bruno

How do you added more pools to your diagram? I'm trying to do that and Bizagi tells me "you have to add a Line into a Pool", and I don't have a POOL icon to add.

Dear Wilfredo,

Bizagi Studio does not allow to create another pool because it is another process. In order to automate your process, it is possible one by one. Processes can communicate between each other through message flows. This type of communication is called Collaboration.

Collaboration is a tool that relates two or more processes allowing them to communicate with each other by sending and receiving messages containing information to take actions.

In Bizagi, collaboration is done through the throw and catch shapes which are configured in each process. For further information: http://help.bizagi.com/bpmsuite/en/index.html?bpmn_collaboration.htm

Dear Bruno,

We could check that your model has some elements which are not currently supported by the Simulation engine in Bizagi. This engine is provided by Lanner, our technological ally, and it will not currently simulate models having:

  • Complex gateways.
  • Transactional Sub-Processes.
  • Gateways which not entirely define as converging or diverging (exclusively). Meaning, that a gateway should be either (convergent or divergent), but not both or none.
  • Start events of the multiple start type.

In addition to this, please verify that tasks having detail for its implementation property, should not be using the "OTHER" value (choose "UNSPECIFIED" instead).Best regards,

I am just trying to connect two pools with a message flow connector and cannot get the endpoint to light up to connect. I can connect to the first task, but never the second, whether in the same pool or not. Please help!

Dear Lauren,

The following table has been extracted from the BPMN 2.0 standard where the rules to connect objects through message flows is defined. "The arrow symbol indicates that the object listed in the row can connect to the object listed in the column. (...) Only those objects that can have incoming and/or outgoing Message Flows are shown in the table. Thus, Lane, Gateway, Data Object, Group, and Text Annotation are not listed in the table."Business Process Model and Notation, v2.0 page 44 pools7

Understanding interaction between processesBPMN defines Pools as Process performers (Entity or Role) that contain the Sequence Flows between activities. There is always at least one Pool for each diagram even if it is not diagrammed.More than one pool in a diagram represents interaction between separate business entities or performers. pools1

Dear Mr Zuluaga

I have the same problem as Stefania did. If I work with 2 or more pools and try to connect different tasks the simulation doesn't work and the communication is interrupted between pools. It only works when I use a sarting message event but then the diagram does not make sense anymore because I need to use an intermediate event.

Thank you very much for your time and hope to hear back from you soon

Ps: I'm from Venezuela

Kind Regards,

Roberto De Sousa
